April's almost over and my mojo is lurking around, peeking in then running away. My soldier-son is settling into his new barracks and schedule, so that's a good thing. My mom, though, is bouncing in and out of the hospital, which is NOT a good thing. Still juggling sewing jobs and mom-jobs, and real-world responsibilities, so finding a stretch of quiet and concentration to get sketches and commissions done has been hard. Some purse work going on, but my heart isn't in it, and not loving playing hide-and-seek with the mojo. Small steps forward--always forward!--and patience are the words of the day Here's to May being better!
I'm running so far behind, I may never catch up. My commissions for Feb. have been postponed until April--and thank you to all my folks who so graciously accepted the delay. I am so grateful for your understanding. It's been an emotionally exhausting 2 months. My dad died mid-February, and my oldest, my pony-loving kid, is at basic training all the way across the country. Focus and creative spirit have been largely absent, and between regular sewing and alterations work, and all the juggling and worrying and sadness, I haven't had the energy or interest to try to entice my mojo back home. Working on something--anything--has helped. I hope to get back into fun stuff mid-April, after soldier-son's graduation from basic, and his travel to AIT is done, and he's settled in, and my mind can settle back in. The pony-making is on the back burner for the time being, but it's keeping warm, so not to worry.
Sketches underway for five purse commissions--two paisleys, copying an original drawing (by a three year old! Soooo cute!), a Supernatural tattoo, and a lady bug themed bag--as well as another cat-patterned tapestry bag (god, I *hated* working with that fabric), and tweaking my pony mare and stallion patterns, and the filly pattern. Working on sketches for a special pony, inspired by another DA artist's drawings, too. Got prelim patterns done for a couple of other interesting non-pony plushes, including a mole, and an armadillo, and my daughter has requested a Tardis. We'll see about the Tardis. Need to test the prelim patterns out in muslin, then on to fleece and felt.
Too many jobs! Not complaining, because it's good to be busy.

Banner day, as banner days go. :p by WhiteAntCrawls, journal
Banner day, as banner days go. :p
Finally got the last of the lingering plaid shirts done today--well, except for cuff buttons, which need my daughter to be here to try things on. Sewed 4/5 buttons on the front placket on the last lingering shirt, only to discover they were on the inside of the shirt..... *sigh* Cut them off, sewed 2 on the correct side, and found I had sewn the placket to the shirt front in the process. *sigh* again. Can ya tell I've been worrying about my kid, who is away at basic training? So....cut those buttons off, again, and carefully sewed everything in place--and ONLY in place--on the correct side, in the correct places. Hung up the shirt and went
Having lots of feels today. My oldest leaves for medical processing, then off to boot camp aaaaallllll the way on the other side of the country today. I'm so proud of him, but sad, too, that he's going, since I will only see him once in the next 5 months. We've spent the last six month doing a lot of talking about hopes and dreams, expectations and reality, what-if's and don't-do's, truth and lies, trust and betrayal, family and friends, and it's been an incredible experience to have. I haven't been doing much creatively, since my focus has been on preparing him, and myself, and our family for this leave-taking, but it's been enriching all th
